Good Morning Việt Nam!

So, as you can see from the title, Cara and I just returned from Vietnam on our last vacation without children running around or crying. It was a great time filled with wonderful beaches, fishing, snorkeling, crazy cities filled with scooters and motorbikes etc.

We got to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) the evening of 20 Feb and after getting through customs and getting to the arrival hall, Cara and I noticed a couple of things.
  • Vietnam is a "communist" country. The large amount of commercial ads we saw is the reason for the quotes.
  • Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City after "the American Imperialists plans of occupying South Vietnam was thwarted." However, 50-60% of signs and business names in the airport alone were "Saigon this, Saigon that."
We read some books before we arrived in HCMC that warned about traffic and the craziness of it. We figured we live Korea, how could it be worse? Well... Korea is mostly cars driving crazy... and cars are less maneuverable than scooters/motorbikes. HCMC is 4 million motorbikes driving around...everywhere. On the sidewalks, on the streets, on the grass, you name it. Also, the horn here is used for everything from warning some one that you are going near them, to get out of my way. I'll write more later, however my beautiful wife is telling me to go (not come) go to bed.

Whoa! That video is just a tad scary - complete anarchy on the roads of Viet Nam!!!!! Geez - and Melvin and I thought The Philippines and Brazil were bad. That right there is definitely not for the faint of heart.
